Mobile apps work best when they have clear, specific functionality. In more complex situations it might be worth thinking about using a web app, or dividing functionality between different mobile apps.
In a world where saving a few seconds can make the difference, a well-designed app can save time by interacting with smartphone functionality such as GPS, push notifications or bluetooth functionality.

The main difference with regards to a web app is that mobile apps are published via an app store such as Google Play or the Apple store. While this is an additional channel to your users, it also comes with some constraints. Both Google and Apple require apps to follow their guidelines and best practices, and also to upgrade following updates to development frameworks.
When designing the interface, we can choose whether to closely follow the guidelines of each app store, which means the iOS and Android versions will have slightly different interfaces, or whether to prioritise a similar look and feel for both versions of the app.
